About Us
WindRiskTech was founded as a limited liability corporation in 2005 by Kerry Emanuel, Sai Ravela and Ragoth Sundararajan.
Kerry Emanuel, a Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, has researched tropical cyclone physics for 20 years, developing and applying advanced theory, numerical models, observational analyses, field experiments and laboratory work to advance the understanding and prediction of tropical cyclones. His coupled ocean-atmosphere numerical models of tropical cyclone intensity are used by the National Hurricane Center and the Joint Typhoon Warning Center as aids to forecasting tropical cyclone intensity. He is the author of numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and Divine Wind, a popular account of hurricanes.
Sai Ravela is an authority on statistical techniques for state estimation and prediction. In over 10 years of research, he has developed statistical estimation, control and learning methodology and applied it to image processing, pattern and object recognition, robotics and, most recently, the earth sciences. He is the author of several publications and patented intellectual property. His work on capturing the statistical description of hurricane activity is a key element of WindRiskTech's technology. Dr. Ravela is a research scientist at MIT.
Dr. Sundararajan's past research work includes micrometeorological modeling, mesoscale modeling of the coastal atmosphere, boundary layers, and lagrangian transport modeling. His current research work focuses on tropical convection and clouds in General Circulation Models.
